Wildcards for Sabine Lisicki and Kristina Barrois

Stuttgart. Four German players are assured of a place in the main draw of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. In addition to Andrea Petkovic and Julia Görges, who both have qualified via their world rankings, the tournament organisers have now handed Sabine Lisicki and Kristina Barrois wildcards and the chance to play in the long-established tournament in Stuttgart’s Porsche Arena from 16 to 24 April.

“Sabine almost made it into the top 20 two years ago before an injury halted her progress,” said Anke Huber, the Operating Tournament Director. “I’m sure she’ll get over the setback and she’s also quite capable of beating top players on her day. And we wanted to give her the chance at our tournament. Kristina has never received a wildcard from us before and she’s earned it after her good performances recently.”

Seven top 10 players will be in the line-up for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. The seedings will be headed by the Dane Caroline Wozniacki, the current number one. She will be joined by Vera Zvonareva (Russia/3), French Open winner Francesca Schiavone (Italy/4), last year’s runner-up Samantha Stosur (Australia/5), Victoria Azarenka (Belarus/6), who won the Miami tournament last week, Na Li (China/7) and Jelena Jankovic (Serbia/8), the winner of the 2008 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Andrea Petkovic may well spring an Easter surprise. After her sensational display in Miami, where she beat Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic, she is now one of the favourites in Stuttgart.

Tickets for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, which begins on 16 April with qualifying, are available from Easy Ticket Service (Telephone +49 (0) 711-2555 555, Internet www.easyticket.de) or at the Porsche Arena box offices for the duration of the tournament.
