Sabine Lisicki wins her third WTA title in Dallas

Stuttgart. Sabine Lisicki is in top form for the US Open. In Dallas, the 21-year-old German, who this year has already won the Birmingham tournament, secured her third WTA career title. In the final of the Texas Tennis Open on Saturday, she overwhelmed Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai 6-2, 6-1. Of the 38 rallies, 32 were won by Lisicki who then travelled to New York for the year’s final Grand Slam tournament with even greater confidence.

“It’s great when you’re confident about your shots. It gives me strength and puts me in an optimistic frame of mind for the US Open,” said Sabine Lisicki, who made an impressive comeback at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in spring after a long injury layoff. She has won 22 of her last 26 matches and also played at a consistently high level in Dallas, where she did not drop a set and only lost 13 games in total. The last player to show such dominance was Venus Williams when she won the Istanbul tournament in 2005. “I had a fantastic week her in Dallas. The final was a tough one. Aravane’s a very good player. You can’t have any letdowns or else she’ll play very well. But luckily enough I was able to play my best tennis.”
