Stuttgart. A total of 184 aces have been struck at the 2015 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix up until the final. As a part of the “Aces for Charity” campaign, Porsche AG has donated 100 euro for each unreachable serve to its charity partners Plan International and Jürgen Klinsmann’s Agapedia Foundation – and rounded the donation up to 30,000 euro on Sunday.
Bernhard Maier, Board Member Dr. h.c. F.Porsche AG Sales and Marketing, handed over two cheques, each to the value of 15,000 euro, before the final to Wolfgang Porschen, managing director of Plan Deutschland, and Agapedia CEO Stefan Barth respectively. Also on Centre Court for the ceremony were Barbara Rittner, captain of Porsche Team Germany and Plan International Ambassador, and, representing Jürgen Klinsmann, the former German international footballer and World Cup winner Guido Buchwald.
The 2015 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is the first time that “Plan International Deutschland e.V.” has been on board at the tournament. At the centre of the partnership is the “Improved Elementary School Education for Girls” project in Burkina Faso. All the proceeds from the joint fund-raising campaigns go to training 588 elementary school teachers in whose curriculum children’s rights and non-violence in schools play a major role. Plan International is active in 51 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America with its development projects that concentrate of children’s welfare. Their work focuses on helping others to help themselves through the support for children and communities. Plan is involved in particular in health, education and vocational training, child protection, emergency relief, hygiene and the environment.
Jürgen Klinsmann’s charitable foundation, the “Agapedia-Stiftung”, has been a charity partner of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix for ten years. The foundation provides, for example, children meaningful after-school leisure activities including homework supervision, sport, games and creative arts at their centre for children in Esslingen.
