Stuttgart. Angelique Kerber has missed out on fulfilling her dream of winning Wimbledon. Despite putting on an excellent performance, the Porsche Brand Ambassador was beaten in a top class final at the world’s most important tournament 7-5, 6-3 by Serena Williams. Earlier in the year she beat the world No. 1 in the final of the Australian Open to win her first Grand Slam of her career.
“Compliments Angelique Kerber. She has played a fantastic tournament,” said Dr. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “After her triumph at the Australian Open, to now have reached the Wimbledon final is an outstanding achievement. We are proud of our Brand Ambassador. Her performance is a spur for not only the young hopefuls we support together with the German Tennis Association in the Porsche Talent Team Germany. Angelique Kerber is a role model for young people far beyond the sporting world.”
For Serena Williams, it was her seventh ladies singles win in Wimbledon. Having now amassed 22 Grand Slam titles, she has equalised Steff Graf’s record.
